The Swap Meet is back in town and going strong. Every Sunday from September until May, the London Bridge Plaza Association hosts the weekly Swap Meet in the parking lot between the Eagles Outpost, IHop and NAPA Auto Parts. Vendors of all varieties conglomerate to form a shopping experience for all ages. The Swap Meet is open from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., every Sunday. The best route is west on London Bridge Road, to the Hampton Inn. The meet is across the street.
The London Bridge Swap Meet is an effort by the nonprofit collective of business surrounding the London Bridge from Paseo Del Sol to Palo Verde Boulevard known as the London Bridge Plaza Assn. The proceeds of vendor fees go directly to maintenance of the area pavement, restrooms and managerial staff. The remainder of all profits benefit local charities.
In the early September and late May, the vendor area is known as the “mini meet” in which roughly 50 vendors are open. This is to let local businesses in and kick off the beginning of the Swap Meet season. With each Sunday that follows, the meet accumulates more and more vendors throughout the season.
“Currently in this October, the vendor count is just at 100, but the peak time of November to April, the Swap Meets boast over 200 vendors.” explains London Bridge Swap Meet manager, Gary Meeker.
The vendors offer a wide variety of goods and services both local and visiting. As one crawls the rows, look through homemade goods, foods from local farms, potential home-buying opportunities, massage therapy, plants, pet accessories, art, music, food and much much more. In October, one may even find something spooky!
Bring the gals for clothes, home decor, trinkets and treasures. Bring the guys for tools, toys and memorabilia alike. The kids will love all the sweet treats, goofy gadgets and memories in the making.
As well as those with goods and services, local community groups are able to represent their messages and goals. Organizations such as Thunderbolt Middle School’s Educational Tour Group (picture below) have booths at the meet to promote their cause and share information with you.
“We are trying to go to Washington, D.C. in May so we have hand tie-dyed all these clothes for donation”, said Thunderbolt students, Kate Romer and Carly Cordeiro.
Explore the treasures of past and present along the cluttered tables of eclectic explorations. You may just have to make another round to see it all. With more than 500 spaces, there is much to see and many treasures to find (for a bargain price!).
“We have been here at the Swap Meet for over 20 years,” said the family owned Exotic Healing Garden.
One of the best kept secrets of Lake Havasu is the swap meet, and one of the best ways to really get to know the town. Meet locals who have stories, art and services; all pieces of themselves to share.
Daily, monthly, and seasonal contracts are available for vendors. All vendors act independently beyond the space fee and are sole keepers of potential profit.
