Kiwanis of Lake Havasu City
Kiwanis is an International Organization whose main focus is to enrich the lives of children. With Clubs in over 80 Countries and Territories we ensure children receive proper medical care, schooling and have fun being kids. For more than a century, Kiwanis has created opportunities for children to be curious, safe and healthy regardless of the community in which they live. When you give a child the chance to learn, experience, dream, grow, succeed, and thrive, great things can happen.
The International Organization takes on large-scale challenges, such as fighting disease and poverty. Local Clubs work with our partners to help our communities thrive. We are generous with our time, creative with our ideas, passionate about making a difference, and we have fun along the way.
Kiwanis of Lake Havasu City works alongside many other organizations to make our city a wonderful place for children. We work with Marine Corps League Detachment 757 in our annual Toys for Tots mission. Together, we ensure the children of Lake Havasu City have a cheerful Christmas. Kiwanis along with local Lions and Rotary Clubs host the annual Balloon Festival & Fair bringing visitors from all over the world to our city. Proceeds from the festival are then distributed to other nonprofit organizations throughout the city to ensure the needs of those less fortunate are met.
Across the United States Kiwanis is the Charter Organization for 857 Scouting Troops and Packs. In Lake Havasu we the proud sponsor of Boy Scout Troop 85 and Cub Scout pack 85. The young people involved in scouting learn physical, intellectual, social, emotional, and spiritual development so that they take a constructive place in society.
Kiwanis of Lake Havasu sponsors other youth organizations such as Key Club which is a service leadership program. High School Students at Lake Havasu High School and Telesis Preparatory Academy learn leadership through serving others.
There are several fundraising events hosted by Kiwanis of Lake Havasu such as the annual Toys for Tots Golf Tournament, which is the longest running tournament in Lake Havasu City! An annual 5 iron golf tournament, a bowling tournament and the Kiwanis American Flag Program. As part of the Balloon Festival & Fair we host a golf tournament, a 5 & 10 K run, and a kid’s zone with crafts for children.
These events allow Kiwanis of Lake Havasu to fund other programs such as making and distributing Easter Baskets through the local Food Bank, the Bench Program where benches are placed around the city for citizens to relax and enjoy the weather, School Nurse Program where bottled water is distributed several times per year and gift cards are donated so the nurses may purchase needed supplies, the Bug Program working with local schools to help students Bring Up Grades (BUG), helping the city maintain Jack Hardie Park which was built by Kiwanis members, adaptive golf and Special Olympics, Literacy Council, First Things First an early childhood development program, H.A.V.E.N. Family Resource Center which provides a safe place for Victims to receive services and we recognize a Peace Officer and Firefighter of the Year.
The Kiwanis American Flag Program supports school athletic programs through the booster clubs at Lake Havasu High School and Telesis Preparatory Academy and makes donations to both Key Clubs, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Sea Scouts, Havasu Soccer League and Children’s Bowling League. These groups earn their donations by volunteering their time to place American Flags in subscribers’ yards on seven holidays throughout the year.
