An array of jewelry, rocks and unique fossils took center stage at the 54th annual Gem and Mineral Saturday morning and Sunday at the Lake Havasu City Aquatic Center.
Local vendors as well as those from around the state and country, displayed their handmade crafts and jewelry designs. The show was organized by the Gem and Mineral Society whose members work each year to bring the show together as a fundraiser.
“Each year we have over 31 vendors who are amazing professionals from all over. You will find here everything from rough rock slabs, beautiful crystals and jewelry. It’s also a great place of sharing with the community as well,” said Gem and Mineral Society Board of Directors member, Jane Highness.
The Gem and Mineral Society is a local nonprofit whose mission is to educate club members and the community about rocks, gems, minerals and fossils. Members also raise money for scholarships that benefit students in the community.
“All our proceeds go toward scholarships for those who are pursuing a career in the earth sciences, Highness said. “This show is just a joy to do because there are so many talented people and jewelry makers here. It’s also a great thing to do with the whole family as well. We have a scavenger hunt for kids and a kids cave area where they have the opportunity to create something,”
The Gem and Mineral Society also offers lapidary classes in the community. You can also find a rock shop located at the Lake Havasu Museum of History at 320 London Bridge Road.
