At the Western Pyrotechnic Association’s (WPA) Winterblast, children 6 to 18 years old learned lessons about pyrotechnics and the building of fireworks through the Pyrotechnicians in Training (P.I.T) program.
The trainees in this program built hand fountains, pinwheels, mini mines and much more.
Bill Stevenson, P.I.T Crew director, said, “P.I.T Crew has a lot going on for kids. We have programming for kids as young as 6, all the way up to 15. We have kids who are building fountains, kids who are building ballshells, and all sorts of cool stuff that will culminate in a firework display put together by kids”

The Pyros in Training may have had a fun time, but they also created a beautiful firework show shown on Sunday.
Stevenson, along with many other P.I.T Crew adults, helped the trainees learn about the chemical and mechanical composition in pyrotechnics.
The adult pyrotechnicians aimed to give the P.I.T children as much liberty and creative expression as they could.
Here are some photos from the P.I.T Crew and WPA.
