It took the Lady Knights the first quarter and part of the second to get their offense going but once they did, the party was on.
Senior quarterback McKenna Nutt connected with junior Alani Lopez for a 65-yard touchdown to get Havasu on the board. The two would connect again right before halftime, this time from 49 yards out, and Havasu would have a 14-0 lead going into halftime.
“Lopez has got some wheels,” head coach Charlie Stickney said after the game. “Alani was locked in, she caught those two passes, made beautiful runs, outran their defense and really gave us a glimmer of hope that we needed for the first half because everything else was looking a little hairy.”
“I think without those two scores in the second quarter, the second half would have looked a lot different,” Stickney added.
In that third quarter, junior Audrey French would score from one yard out putting Havasu up 21 – 0 going into the final quarter.
Freshman Carlie Levine would intercept a North Canyon pass early in the fourth quarter and return it 35 yards for a touchdown and a 28 – 0 Havasu lead.
“We put some of our hungry freshman in during the second half to help finish what the veterans had started,” Stickney said. “Carlie got two interceptions in the second half, that one for a pick six and we just turned things around.”
McKenna Nutt would finish off the Havasu scoring with a 15-yard run giving Havasu its final 35-0 score.
Havasu improves to 2-0 on the year, having not allowed either of their opponents to score yet in the 2026 season. But they have a quick turnaround with Canyon View coming to town on Thursday for a 6 p.m. contest.
“The last time we faced them, (Canyon View) was two years ago,’ Stickney said. “That was when they won the state championship. Since then, a lot has changed, they have a different coaching staff and are a completely different team.”
“Anybody who comes on our turf, we’re ready to go nose to nose with them,” Stickney added. “Were ready to give our best against them. Our Knights are just as good as anybody else. We’ve made the playoffs the last two years and our hope is to continue making the playoffs this year and for years to come and go further than the first round this year.”
After Canyon View this week, the Lady Knights are on the road next week for a Wednesday contest at Central High School in Phoenix, before returning home on Tuesday October 6, for a 6 p.m., contest against Notre Dame Prep.
