The trail turns gently to the left after about a tenth of a mile; it is at this point you are actually in Mockingbird Wash. This is important to note to make sure you get on the right trail when you return. More on that later.
Mockingbird Wash is wide and easy to walk, there are a lot of unique rock formations along the way.
At the end of the wash, be on the lookout for a trail going up the side of the ridge to your right. Near the end of the trail, it gets more crowded with trees.
Follow the trail up and over a couple of small ridges. You will then find yourself at Solitude Cove.
When it’s time to head back to your car just follow the wash back. As you get near the beginning of the trail, you will notice the white house on the hill and the wash veering to the right.
At this point, you want to make sure you are on the left side of the wash. If you follow the wash as it turns to the right, you will end up at Oro Grande and NOT at Powell Dr. Once you are on the left side of the wash you will see a small trail heading off to the left towards the white house on the hill. That’s the path you want to be on.
The white sign is a good landmark to look for. From here just a couple tenths of a mile and you will be back at the trailhead.
