Lake Havasu Unified School District elementary schools celebrated all things STEM this week with family nights at both Smoketree and Starline elementary schools.
Wednesday night, Smoketree Elementary opened its doors to its families for a night of STEMazing family fun. Students dressed up as scientists while staff from throughout the entire school set up STEM stations for activities that families could enjoy.
The staff was joined by ASU SciTech department to learn “All About Bugs”, as well as UniSource and the Lake Havasu City Police Department who built stations with energy bikes and discussing the science behind some of the most amazing technology in use.
The event was organized by staff members Michael De La Cruz, Sara Daniels, and Edgar Jumagbas and supported by the entire Smoketree team. Smoketree principal, Nina Mersing was thrilled to be able to have such an amazing event for families and credits much of it to the generous donations of the London Bridge Bullies and the K-12 Foundation for their donation to the STEM program at Smoketree.
Thursday was family fun night at Starline Elementary with STEM-centered activities for the entire district to attend.
The event was a partnership between the Lake Havasu Unified School District No. 1, First Things First, and the Arizona PBS/AZ SciTech Institute to bring STEM-based activities, games and resources from several community organizations to the entire community.
