Lake Havasu City cancer survivors were feted Saturday morning at Shugrue’s Bridgeview Room.
The Cancer Association of Havasu hosted the Cancer Survivor’s Breakfast, honoring those who have beaten the disease.
The event featured guest speakers Margie Snyder, Rose Marie Eaton and Evie Cistaro. In addition, entertainment was provided by the cast of “High School Musical” performed by members of Grace Arts Live Arizona Coast Children’s Theatre.
Special recognition was given to the oldest cancer survivor in attendance, Gloria Iverson. Iverson is 97 years old and Linda Milligan was recognized for being diagnosed 61 years ago.
The youngest survivor, Amber Kennedy, 52, also was honored. The most recent survivor present Cindy Miller was diagnosed in March.
Cooper Sepulveda, also a survivor, was presented with “Spiderman” presents from Evie Cistaro and Mayor Cal Sheehy read a proclamation from the city.
The Cancer Association of Havasu has provided 415 mammograms through the Havasu Community Health Foundation this year. Since 2005, 5,927 mammograms have been provided. More than $3,125,000 has been raised since 2005. Additional screenings and support groups are also available.
In addition to fundraising and providing mammogram services, The Cancer Association of Havasu also provides scholarships, education, transportation, comfort bags and hydrotherapy.
