Lake Havasu City cookie monsters have a date with destiny Saturday from 8 to 11 a.m.

The Safeway parking lot at 1650 McCulloch Blvd., will be the scene of a cookie fundraiser sponsored by Anderson Auto and Powersports Group.

Adaptive Golf and Other Sports will give away 900 cookies. The Triple Chip Cookies are free, but donations are welcomed for the special needs community.

President of Adaptive Golf and Other Sports Craig Adams said the funds raised are distributed 100 percent to the special needs community in Lake Havasu City.

The program is in its sixth year of operation as a 501c3 nonprofit.

Adams said that he and friend Bob Lamarsh,  who was 100 percent blind, decided to begin the program on the teaching tee at the Lake Havasu Golf Club.

Adams came to Lake Havasu City when he was in the sixth grade. As an adult, he was at the Shadow Creek Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nev., for 16 years.

When the London Bridge Golf Course changed hands and became the Lake Havasu Golf Club, Adams became one of its owners and returned to the community.

“I was happy to be back home,” he said. “I always say it’s not a city, it’s a community.”

In addition to adaptive golf, fishing is a popular activity. “We’re working on developing adaptive pickle ball as well,” Adams said.

The organization took participants on field trips in the past to Scooters Family Fun Center in Bullhead City and snow tubing in Flagstaff, as well as to Flagstaff Extreme – Zip Lines and Adventure Courses.

Fundraising dinners have also been hosted at the Lake Havasu Golf Club.

The next event will be Adaptive Fishing on Oct. 29-30.

“This is a two-day special needs fishing event. It will be at Bridgewater Links at London Bridge Resort at their fresh-water pond. We did that for safety purposes,” Adams said.

In addition to Adams, leadership of the nonprofit consists of Jim Wijnhamer, vice president; Brian McGrew, secretary; Tom Lucas, treasurer; and Anthony Chavez, marketing.

“This is the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done,” Adams said.
