Peace, love, and music were in abundance at the 42nd Annual Chamber of Commerce Awards ceremony Friday evening. The Chamber honored several chamber and community volunteers, as well as organizations during the event.

The Business and Education Leader award was presented to the Western Area Vocational Education District (WAVE). WAVE received the award based on their success with Career and Technical Education and Training for regional high school students and the impact they have made in workforce Training.

The Outstanding Young Professional Award was awarded to Nathan Burnell, Assistant Vice President/Commercial Lender for Horizon Community Bank. Burnell is an active member of the Lake Havasu City Kiwanis Club where he was instrumental in raising over $13,000 for kids and other Kiwanis charities. He is also a US Marine Corps Veteran and role model for other young professionals.

Havasu Regional Medical Center was presented the Community Development and Improvement Award. HRMC has made many improvements over the years to bring high quality patient care to the region. The improvements, from the birthing center, to the Cancer Treatment Centre, increase quality of life in Havasu while also achieving community beautification.

A new award this year, the Ethics in Business Award was earned by Alpine Communications. Small business owner Doug Browning built Alpine from the ground up and is recognized as a community leader in communications service while providing service with honesty, ethics and integrity.

The Ambassador of the Year went to Teri Jameson, Business Relationship Manager at Wells Fargo. Teri has used her people skills to bring more than 20 new members to the Chamber over the past year. She also assisted the Ambassador Committee with all events this year, and participated in the National Association of Chamber Ambassadors Conference in Clovis, N.M., in April, representing Lake Havasu City.

A true Havasu Booster was presented the award with that name. Mohave State Bank Senior Vice President Monica Hall received the award for her “can do” attitude as a “go to” person in the city. She is on the Board for River Cities United Way, is a longtime member of the Chamber Ambassador Committee and has been an integral part of the Chamber’s fundraising events.

The Chamber Member Business of the Year recipient is Havasu Pest Control. Operated locally by Ike and Michele Webb on behalf of the Stebelia family who founded the business in 1972, Havasu Pest Control has supported each and every chamber program, project and fundraiser over the past 12 months. HPC supports the chamber’s leadership programs and Michele Webb provided valuable oversight to the chamber team’s Chamber of the Year application.

The final award of the evening was to Scott Taylor, Public Relations and Marketing Director for Anderson Auto Group. Taylor, a long-time Lake Havasu City resident, is known around town as a “guy who gets things done”. He is active in Rotary International, and has been responsible for the success of many programs, projects and fundraisers for a number of community organizations. Taylor is also a “friend of the Chamber” that assists in transporting staff and volunteers to out of town meetings and other technical assistance.

The Whelan Leadership Award and the Chamber Volunteer Award will be presented later this month.
