A benefit this week was organized bring some Christmas cheer to children orphaned as the result of a Laughlin, Nev., apartment fire.
The Nov. 14 fire took the life of Crystal Renken.
Rick Powell, along with the help of Sarah and Jerad Pennington, organized the benefit at Pennington’s Pub. The River Riders, Red Iron, Legacy Riders, Soldiers for Jesus and other motorcycle clubs and community members came together and raised nearly $6,000 in cash, donated toys, clothing and gift certificates to help the family through the holidays and beyond.
The two children are living with the victim’s sister Destiny Jurado in Lake Havasu City.
Biker Night at the Flyin X, on consecutive Wednesdays raised $1,700. In addition, Cross Cutt and Matt Ferris entertained at the benefit. Table decoration were provided by Lady Di’s and Mudshark Pizza and Ken’s Pizza donated pizzas. Dave’s Appliances donated a new washer/dryer to the family.
Other contributors included Glass A Fex, Gear Up Motorsports Motorcycle Shop, The Kind Connection, Up in Flames Clothing, Jet Printing, Sunset Tours, Havasu Bike n Fitness (Craig Haney), Eclectic Avenue, Dallas/Kim Finch, Veteran’s America Arizona, Crown Jewelers and Daybreakers Lions Club.
Other donations were given by Bill Shuffle, American Legion Riders, Twisted Metal M/C Shop, Desert Thunder M/C Shop, Gear up Motorsports and Big Mark Arroyo/Anthem Band.
