Mount Olive Lutheran Church’s Friendship Cafe hosted the first ever senior prom put together by Dementia Connection of Havasu. This special event saw people come together, supported by more than 20 volunteers.
One of these volunteers is Heather Minery, told RiverScene, “We want to thank the wonderful people of Havasu that have come together and donated their time, prom dresses, accessories and baked goods and tea sandwiches. Also, salons have come together to volunteer time to do the ladies’ hair and makeup.”

The theme was Magic and Memories. “This inaugural prom further lends fellowship and togetherness through community support,” says Minery. “It’s a day to remember, a memory forever.”
Dementia Connection of Havasu is a program under the umbrella of the Havasu Community Health Foundation, a nonprofit organization. Dementia Connection is dedicated to providing support and education regarding issues related to dementia.

Some of the benefits Dementia Connection offers are support groups, memory screenings, educational conferences, as well as individual support and resources. They have also been hosting the Memory Cafe for almost two years, a social gathering where those experiencing memory loss and their loved ones can network and find support.
