Desert Storm, sponsored by Anderson Powersports, kicked off its three-day event with “Krusin’ For A Kause” at Windsor State Beach Wednesday.
Those with different abilities enjoyed a cruise around Windsor State Beach in high performance boats some of which can be seen all weekend during Desert Storm.
The event has been around for 20 years and first started at the Nautical Beach Front Resort before a few changes this year at Windsor State Park Beach.
“Anderson Powersports is happy to be the title sponsor for Desert Storm this year. We connected with agencies and co-organizers who have done this event when it first started and from there, we got involved,” said Marketing and Promotions Specialist with Anderson Toyota Andrea Foote.
Desert Storm is the largest performance boating event in Lake Havasu and around the western part of the country. It involves several events and activities, beginning Wednesday with “Krusin’ For A Kause” which allows youth with different abilities the opportunity to experience cruising inside a boat.
Lake Havasu High School students, Rise, Milemarkers, New Horizons and Special Olympics were just some of the agencies participating in the event.
“This is my first year volunteering at this particular event, I have been involved with Special Olympics for three years in town as a coach. We do basketball, swimming and all kinds of sports. This is event is awesome,” said Terri Halbash, Special Olympics coach and volunteer.
Music and food vendors capped off the event after each boat ride at Windsor 4.
“We are going to make it bigger next year with even more participants as well,” said Brenda Johnson, co-organizer of “Krusin For a Kause.”
Desert Storm events continue tomorrow with a street party on Main Street from 1 to 9 p.m., followed by a parade and Poker Run on Friday, and Shugrue’s Shootout on Saturday.
