Anderson Powersports Desert Storm finished Saturday in dramatic fashion.

The Shugrue’s Shootout competition off Lake Havasu Site 6 saw the fastest team – Team Freedom – finish upside down and in the air at 200 miles per hour. Results and information were reported by Shawna Menser of DSM Events LLC of Lake Havasu City.

It was reported that the team inside the boat suffered broken bones but were OK, according to a post on social media.

Finishing second with a speed of 145 mph was DCB; and third place went to Hobie Jarret at 144 mph – off by just 1 mph.

The Jones Family Trust provided a $20,000 purse and all of the winners donated their cash winnings back to the Desert Storm Charities.

Here are some photos of the event.

When I lived in Havasu in the 1970’s I would watch the boat races from my apartment up the hill from the lake. It was so fun to see. I miss the lake and all the different kinds of boat races. I never saw a accident like this one.
