The Havasu Hangover Gang has been making donations to local Lake Havasu City nonprofits for years.

The 21-year old “gang” is a group of primarily retired motorcycle enthusiasts who like the open road and riding throughout the area.

Hangover member Dale Coalmer told RiverScene Magazine, “We are not a club. A club means rules and we have no rules and no attitude. We’re just a bunch of retirees who get together and ride every Wednesday.”

Coalmer and fellow Hangover member Dale Swanson recently organized the group’s ninth golf tournament to fundraise for local nonprofits.

This year’s tournament, the Six-Pack Open, was hosted March 20, at the Iron Wolf Golf and Country Club and benefited the Heidi Edwards Cooking for Cancer nonprofit for the second year.

“We had 44 golfers in the nine-hole tournament – both riders and those who helped with the fundraising effort – local businesses and more,” Coalmer said.

“It turned out to be successful. We had a party after the tournament at Bogeys and Stogies Restaurant/Bar and Grille at Iron Wolf. Lisa Turner, president and CEO of the Heidi Edwards Cooking for Cancer Foundation and Phyllis Rathburn were invited,”

The group donated $6,200 to the nonprofit.

The Hangover Gang has contributed to many nonprofits over the years including Food 4 Kids and more.

Members participate in other events throughout the year including the Toys for Tots Christmas ride and other poker runs that raise money for charities.

There are between 140 and 150 riders involved with the group most of the time. The Wednesday rides take place throughout the Lake Havasu area.

“We ride to places like Salome, Quartzsite. We stop for lunch and then usually stop again before returning to Lake Havasu,” Coalmer said.

Coalmer expressed his appreciation to those who helped with the event and said the group, including leader Joe Slelliken plan to host the golf tournament again next year.
