An array of unique quilts stitched with many beautiful patterns is on display at Lake Havasu City Hall.
The quilts were created by the Havasu Stitchers Quilt Guild. Group members were involved in the “Arizona Dreaming” challenge where members were asked to create quilts with hues of blue and beige to resemble the state of Arizona.
“Each member was tasked with creating a landscape, or some scene that represents our state using specific fabrics,” said Tanya Braun, Havasu Stitchers Quilt Guild member.
The quilts measure 20 by 20 inches and are known as “Challenge Quilts.” The quilts are a preview of what’s in store for the upcoming quilt show Feb. 2 and 3, at the Lake Havasu Aquatic Center.
“We are hoping to get a total of 150 quilt items or entries at the show. That would include full-sized quilts, fiber arts, some patchwork quilts, wall hanging quilts and our challenge quilts that are here presently at city hall,” said Havasu Stitchers Quilt Guild president and co-chair, Barb Withers.
The guild not only puts on an annual show, they also provide classes and education for new and old Stitchers. Members also provide quilts for residents in nursing homes, and quilts for cancer treatment centers with pockets for cancer patients to hold on to when undergoing chemotherapy treatments.
Havasu Stitchers Quilt Guild also invites non members to participate in sewing items and preparing kits for their community outreach program which is held the third Wednesday of the month at the Aquatic Center.
The quilts on display at city hall will be there through Jan. 22. The “Bridge of Friendship XV Dream It -Quilt It,” themed show takes place Feb. 2 and 3. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Lake Havasu Aquatic Center. Show attendees will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite “Arizona Dreaming” -themed quilt at the February 2024 quilt show.
