Lake Havasu City commemorated the events of 9/11 at a ceremony at London Bridge Beach Saturday morning.

The Marine Corps League started the ceremony with posting of the colors along with the Lake Havasu Fire and Police departments.

The Lake Havasu High School Choir sang the National Anthem and “America the Beautiful”. Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School Choir performed “God Bless America”.

Chief Peter Pilafas and Mark Martz performed the bell ceremony and Gold Star Moms Mona Hester and Nancy Bannett conducted the wreath placement.

The ceremony ended with a rifle salute performed by the Marine Corps League, followed by “Taps” performed by Dennis Dickey and Randy Kozak.

Today, at 5 a.m., members of the Lake Havasu City Fire Department ran up and down the stairs of the London Bridge commemorating those first responders who ran up the stairs to save people in the Twin Towers. At 7 a.m., members of the Desert Hills Fire Department repeated the tribute.
