The Lake Havasu City Elks Lodge BPOE 2399 hosted a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday as long-awaited building renovations begin.

Gabriele Medley, chairman of the Elks Planning Committee, said the service organization would be adding 5,000 square feet to its social quarters on the east side of the building.

“We’re also doing renovation of the bathrooms in the social quarters, and redoing the emergency exit in the back to meet ADA requirements,” she said.

Medley said the work begun Thursday is the beginning of a three-phase plan.

“The next phase will be a kitchen expansion and then a bar reconfiguration,” she said.

Medley said the long-range planning committee came together about 14 years ago and started the process of doing renovations and upgrades to the building.

“Two years ago, I became the chair, largely because of my construction background and in two years, we’ve brought it from concept to groundbreaking. I’m excited,” Medley said.

The Havasu Elks organization boasts 5,000 members, Medley said.
