On Wednesday, Lake Havasu High School hosted an open house tour of their Career and Technical Education classes on campus for the incoming freshmen in the Lake Havasu Unified School District.
Marsha Becker, CTE Coordinator for Lake Havasu Unified School District and CTED of WAVE said, “Tonight was all about getting out eighth-grade students, our community ambassadors, and stakeholders onto our campus to check out our classrooms, to look through our CTE programs, to see what they’re all about, to look at the hands-on learning that’s happening and really get them excited about next year and taking courses up here at Lake Havasu High School.”

Lake Havasu High School has an extensive list of CTE courses, with some of them being Early Childhood Education, Software and App Design, Automotive Maintenance, or Emergency Medical Services.
The event had teachers in their classrooms, showcasing the different aspects of their program. Some teachers showed the intriguing parts of their respective programs, while others opted to have their students testify of the real-world application of the class.
Teacher of Anatomy and Physiology in Sports Medicine, Nancy Schweigert said, “Basically, what we do here is learn about the human body and anatomical terminology.”
Schweigert has been teaching for almost 15 years.
“Next year, I’m excited for bigger classes, more kids interested in the medical field, even if you’re not going to be a nurse or a doctor, you learn a lot about the human body and a lot about yourself medically,” she said.
The event also featured food trucks in the cafeteria concourse area, providing a chance to get a beverage or dinner while on the tours.
