The Mohave County Library is keeping youth busy with a variety of programs and activities that entertain and at the same time, promote learning for the younger residents in Lake Havasu City.

In the last two years, Youth Services Librarian April Martin, has been tasked with creating workshops specifically for the youth program. In that time, Martin has been instrumental in expanding the number of offerings at the Lake Havasu City branch.

“All of our programs are free and open to the public. We do still have our weekly reading activities for the preschool and toddler age group such as Toddler Sunshine Hour,” Martin said. “On Fridays, we now have an elementary program  for ages 5-12. We have really ramped it up and added more into our youth program.”

Some of those workshops include “Inspiration Station Where STEM Meets Art,” offered weekly on Fridays after school at 3:30 p.m., inside the Lake Havasu Library community room. Kids have the opportunity to explore science, technology, reading, art and math, with a new topic offered every week.

On the first Saturday of the month, from 9 to 11 a.m., kids can also take part in Saturday Lego League where they can  use their imagination to create and build with Lego building blocks.

For teenagers ages 12-18, the library offers a teen painting party workshop, comics and Anime Manga club , a Japanese version comic book series for youth and adults.  Teens can meet as a group and discuss the latest comics and manga series together.

Teenagers can find resources on the American College Testing test (ACT)Prep, and the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT)prep along with financial aid information for college.  Online homework help and tutoring is also offered for free on the library’s website.

And like many libraries, residents can apply for a free library card. For those under the age of 18, they can obtain one to check out books and movies with the permission of an adult.

“As long as a legal guardian is able to sign for their child, any age is welcome to obtain a library card,” Martin said. “They will just be responsible for their child’s card.”

Aside from youth services, the library offers many adult programs and workshops and computer and printing services as well. Community room rentals are also offered for a fee.
