Each year, the Lake Havasu Unified School District hosts a training and orientation week for new incoming teachers.

The district wants to ensure that new teachers are made welcome in their working environment as well as in the community.

Friday, the Lake Havasu Association of Realtors hosted a luncheon for the 28 new teachers at the Sunset Room of the London Bridge Resort.

Judy Tassie, chairman of government affairs and RAYPAC for the association, told RiverScene Magazine, “Each year (the district) reaches out to local businesses and community members to put on lunch or breakfast for them.

“We like to go above and beyond and make them feel really special and welcome, so I usually have them do a field trip for them and then we do this luncheon.”

Tassie said association members and affiliates donated gift cards, so every new teacher leaves with a gift.

“It’s a way for us to welcome them to the community,” she said.
