Teen Break makes a welcome return to Lake Havasu City this March.

For the 25th Teen Break, the Parks and Recreation department plans to take the event back to its roots – which means more fun, more activities and more events for Havasu teens.

Starting March 12 and ending March 14, Teen Break will be a three-day party for teens who register for the event. Registration is $40 per teen and it begins Feb. 25.

RiverScene spoke to Janice Brown to find out what’s happening this Teen Break.

Activities

“There was a huge demand for more physical activities this year,” Janice said in a phone interview with RiverScene. Events such as 3-on-3 basketball, relays, volleyball and even a mud pit will be available for Havasu teens to enjoy.

Teen Break hosts also plan on using the water more this year. The events will be in Rotary in the lower section of the park, next to the beach.

The Havasu Fire Department will also host a junior firefighter obstacle course. The Parks and Recreation department also will be providing food and live entertainment.

Entertainment

The main stage will feature DJ Havik returning for music, and a game trailer from Phoenix will set up to engage teens. There also will be a new flight simulator this year, courtesy of the many sponsors who made Teen Break possible.

Food will be provided all three days, including everything from hamburgers to pizza. Parks and Recreation, through community donations, will award prizes to lucky teen breakers.

“We have some Airbuds as a prize,” Janice told us. “The community really helped a lot this year.”

Community Participation

The event is sponsored by Kalil Bottling Co., and is manned by the Parks and Rec staff and security-cleared volunteers from the city. Local supermarkets also contributed to the Teen Break effort, as well as the Elks’ Lodge that will sponsor the game trailer.

Brown said Parks and Recreation is grateful for all the help, and look forward to holding Teen Break in Havasu again.

For the Teens

“Teen Break is a safe place for high schoolers to go and be away from the college break atmosphere. It’s a also a place where they can get a break from their parents and safely hang out with their peers,” Brown said. This is Brown’s 14th year organizing Teen Break and she enjoys the kids the most.

“This is the way the community kids get some appreciation.”
