The Western Arizona Humane Society is reaching out to the community and urging folks to consider adopting one of its current residents because the shelter has reached full capacity. In order to clear the shelter, there are adoption specials available this month to assist animals find a new forever home.

“Right now, we are hosting a clear the shelter event, where all of our dogs that are over 1 year of age, are a free adoption charge,” said Western Arizona Humane Society Director Of Operations, Steven Jenkins.”The only charge for someone who comes to adopt, would be a city license which is around $29, I believe.”

Jenkins also said this has been the first year they have been over capacity in the new Sweetwater building.

“Typically, our animals get to enjoy a double kennel where they can go though both sides, however recently we have had to fill both sides to make room for more animals,” Jenkins said.

In 2019, the Western Arizona Humane Society officially moved into its new facility which allowed for more space and includes glass-enclosed kennels for dogs and cats, vet services and centralized cooling, but today it is full and the shelter is looking to host more adoption events at the shelter and around community businesses to reach more potential adopters.

We will be there from 2 to 4 p.m.”
