The Western Arizona Humane Society is in need of forever homes for many animals because its shelter is at full capacity. In order to help relieve the facility, they are hosting a special “Clear The Shelter” free adoption event.
“Right now we are having a special to clear the shelter because we are so full. We are pushing 100 every day. They just keep coming in. They are in kennels doubled up,” said Brandi Engler, Manager and event Coordinator at Western Arizona Humane Society.
Animals are ready for adoption at the shelter, but they will also be available for adoption at Petsmart from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday through Saturday.
Some of the dogs up for adoption include a Terrier mix named Luna, a few Pit Bull Labs, a Doberman, a Healer mix and many others.
The adoption fee will be waived for dogs 1-year-old and older, with the exception of a required license fee. The fee is anywhere from $19 to $21. Puppies will have an adoption fee of $200.
“Either way, we rather have these animals go to a very good home,” said Engler.
With temperatures running high during the summer time, Engler and the Humane Society will like to remind pet owners to keep their pets safe and cool this weekend.
“I know when people here love to take their dogs walking and they love to take them to the park, but temps get really hot on the black top. I suggest they walk their dogs very early in the morning or late at night like 8 p.m., when the suns down,” Engler said. “Also, don’t trust your car’s air conditioning and keep them indoors during the day.”
The adoption event will be at Petsmart located at 5601 Arizona State Route 95, Thursday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. You may also visit the shelter Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The shelter is located at 2160 Sweetwater Drive.
