Lights, music, a catwalk and plenty of unique fashion pieces!
That was the scene inside the Lake Havasu High School Performing Arts Center at the ninth annual Fashion Show Friday night.
With more than 100 pieces of garments, students enrolled in Deborah Strother’s Fashion and Design class, modeled their own pieces which they dedicated countless hours and time to complete. They finally had the opportunity to share completed projects with an audience of family, friends and fashion judges.
“I have been working very hard during class to prepare for the show,” said ninth-grader Skylar Hollinshead, who is enrolled in fashion courses at Lake Havasu High School. “Overall it has been such a good experience.”
“At times the class became tough and difficult,” said ninth-grader Lynzee Healea. “I am just so glad in the end my work is done and made it to the show.”
The annual event themed “A Time for the Seasons,” showcased student’s work and each student modeled their creations. Students dedicated several months of their time by first sketching and finding inspiration for each piece in magazines, TV shows and fashion trends.
“This year has been pretty calm,” said Strother. “All the kids worked very hard before the show and were really good with their project deadlines. It is just amazing.”
Students enrolled in Deborah Strother’s fashion class learn sewing and design skills. Some of the advanced students even have the opportunity to travel to Phoenix Fashion Week in the fall – an event filled with fashion seminars, charitable partnerships, and year-round fashion events.
“I think this is very exciting and wonderful how the students are involved with this,” said Diane Brandon a parent among the audience. “This is also so great for our community, I’m very excited about it.”
At the end of the night, three student’s design pieces were chosen as winners of the show. Among the winning pieces was a black lace dress, patterned pants and black top piece and a recycled red dress.
Donations given at the event will help fund class trips to Phoenix Fashion Week.
