Lake Havasu High School members of the Class of 1985 celebrated its 40th reunion over the past weekend.
Jean Russell – maiden name Van Nierop – told RiverScene Magazine the gathering Saturday evening at London Bridge Resort Convention Center was a chance to reconnect.
“We’re enjoying ourselves. Last night we were at Martini Bay and we toured the high school that is vastly different than it was 40 years ago,” she said.
“Here we are at the convention center just gathering and communicating, reconnecting and just enjoying each other’s company again.”
Russell’s cohort organizer, Valerie Kranz – maiden name Frahm – let RiverScene in on a surprise the pair put together for the school tour.

“We snuck into the high school early so we could visit the Mark Weston Memorial Tree. As a surprise to our classmates, we got wooden hearts and wrote in purple ink the names of all of our classmates who have passed and then in black ink we wrote the names of our teachers who have passed. It was a great surprise. Everybody loved it,” Kranz said.
“There are too many memories at the high school to just pick one but since I was part of band, just the trouble we got into that no one thought we would do. It’s definitely served as lifetime memories,” she said.
