Most have heard the saying “hold onto your hat.” Well, this weekend will be a good time to heed that warning as well as holding onto an umbrella.
The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has forecast that along with a strong trough moving in Saturday bringing high winds, the remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel will reach Mohave County and Lake Havasu City.
Brayden Murdock of the National Weather Service said, “We’re going to get some good rain.”
Along with the 40 mph gusts expected on Saturday, Sunday could bring more sustained winds up to 45 mph, according to Murdock.

The rain will also move in on Saturday.
“Saturday night has the best chances of rain starting in Mohave County with heavy rain with thunderstorms embedded in them moving into Sunday,” Murdock said.
He said rain amounts through Monday could be anywhere from ¾” to 1½” in various areas, and up to 1 to 2 inches in the mountain areas.
“There could be localized flooding and some flash flooding with these conditions,” he said.
On Friday, the National Weather Service in Las Vegas said with the wind and rain conditions along the Colorado River Valley, some microbursts could occur.

Rain and wind should begin to subside Monday afternoon and Murdock said conditions should normalize after that.
“Everyone should be aware of the conditions where they are,” Murdock said.
The Desert Hills Fire Department is making sandbags available while they last. DHFD Station 151 is located at 3983 London Bridge Road. The Lake Havasu City Fire Department will have sandbags available at stations 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
