The American Cancer Society Relay for Life movement is one of the world’ s most impactful events to rasie funds to end cancer.
Lake Havasu City’s annual event was from at ASU Colleges at Lake Havasu City Friday at 6 p.m. through 6 a.m. Saturday. Teams and individuals walked to support cancer survivors and those who have succumbed to the disease.
Doug Esmay has been the event lead for Relay for Life for the past three years.
“The reason I do this is because friends and family have lost their lives to cancer and I will continue to do this until we find a cure,” Esmay said.
He said more than 300 participants signed up and there may have been more than 400 during the actual relay.
Esmay said over the last three years, the Lake Havasu Relay for Life has raised $120,000 and when the relay started Friday, $32,000 had already been raised this year. Donations are accepted until August.
