Making the transition from elementary school to middle school can be confusing and maybe a little difficult, but Soroptimist International of Lake Havasu City sponsored an event May 10 to help ease the anxiety and anticipation.

The Junior High Heels Seminar, hosted at Thunderbolt Middle School, invited sixth-grade girls from Lake Havasu City schools for a half-day of orientation.

The girls got a tour of the school, participated in team-building activities, created vision boards and met girls from across the city.

The annual event occurs in the spring.

Soroptimist Teliza Washington said, “We had such a wonderful time on Saturday at the Jr. High Heels event.”

Washington thanked all those who participated and helped with the event including Alyssa Adams, Libby Carlton, Lisa Jennings and Emcee Vanessa Liesen.

Washington said about 65 sixth-grade girls were in attendance.

Jimmy John’s provided the lunch and Safeway provided the breakfast items.

Some members of the Kingman Sotoptimist organization and their S-Club joined in to learn more about the event.

“Our S-Club girls did a wonderful job as well. It’s so neat seeing and hearing all the sixth graders clap and scream – yes, they get pretty excited when the S-Club girls are doing their presentations,” Washington said.

Here are some photos of the event.
