The Clothes Closet hosted a dinner that raised $20,000 for its cause last Friday evening at Shugrue’s Bridgeview room in Lake Havasu City.
The Clothes Closet is a nonprofit that provides clothing and resources for children, families and adults in need. This includes domestic violence situations, families that fall on hard times and the homeless. The Clothes Closet also works with other organizations such as job programs and United Way to provide these services.
Friday evening, guest speaker Mike Justus, along with Sandro Schneider, spoke to the crowd about his life growing up before he became a stuntman in movies such as “Iron Man” and “Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull.”
During the presentation, Justus and Schneider presented Christine Watson-Buntemeyer with 50 pairs of new Vans shoes for children in need. The children can get these Vans during the Clothes Closet annual Back-To-School Fair at the Clothes Closet in June 2025.
Guest speaker “Brian” gave his testimony about how the Clothes Closet helped him get on his feet last year.
Before the fundraiser Friday evening, Schneider and Justus spoke to high school students in the theater and audio visual department about doing stunts in movies and the other jobs behind the scenes such as camerawork.
A silent auction was featured during the dinner which included items donated by Lin’s Little China, Gems Assisted Living, Lake Havasu Golf Club, Desert Doe Bakery, Brigid Stevens, Sunset Charter and Tour Company, Cha Bones, Mario’s , Bodywork by Nellie, London Bridge Resort, Dixie Belle, RJ Custom Framing, Pink Closet, Majik Milkshake, Bagel Bin, Republican Women’s Club and many others. Title sponsors included College Street Brewery, Hickory Treatment, Arizona Complete Health, and Tri-State Equipment.
The $20,000 raised will go toward the installation of new showers at the Clothes Closet for the homeless, and into other programs.
