Rodgers and Hammerstein’s THE KING AND I features many treasured songs including Whistle a Happy Tune, Getting to Know You, Hello, Young Lovers and Shall We Dance. The source material for the stage musical, Anna and the King of Siam (1944 novel), was itself based on the real Anna’s highly fictionalized account of her six years at the Court of King Mongkut. The story is set in 1862, and widowed, British schoolteacher, Anna Leonowens has arrived in Siam with her young son to instruct the royal children. But, despite her sharp wit and strong will, nothing has prepared Anna for the lessons this rich and complicated new land will teach her—or for the powerful connection she will forge with its authoritative King. THE KING AND I is the winner of the 2015 Tony Award® for Best Musical Revival.
