This year marks the 35th anniversary of the first lighting of Cupcake Mountain. It also marks the 10th anniversary of the last lighting.
Over the last few years, there have been many, many requests, inquiries and posts about the tradition, many of which include people who really want to see it happen again, according to the Leaping Lizard Tribe Facebook page press release.
And they shared that The Leaping Lizard Tribe will be lighting the mountain again this year.
Saturday, Oct. 30, at 9 p.m., Cupcake Mountain will once again be lit.
Because the mountain is located in a wilderness area, The Leaping Lizard Tribe is working closely with the Bureau of Land Management to make the lighting take place.
The group has had an agreement in place with them since the area was protected in the 1990s, so they are able to continue to perform the lighting.
However, it also means they are regulated in how they light the mountain, and how many people they are allowed to include.
Because of this, and because of limited parking, the group asks if possible, that people please refrain from hiking up that day.
