Monday morning marked the official opening of the Food Bank in its new location. In response to the closing of fellow nonprofit, Interagency Council, the vital local resource was absorbed in June by the Havasu Community Health Foundation.

Under the new management, the Food Bank is now operational and ready to continue helping those in need of food and other basic necessities.

The Food Bank branch of the Havasu Community Health Foundation is managed by Colleen Mattison. All operations of the program would not be possible without the valued help of volunteers.

In addition to new location, the Food Bank has now expanded its services to offer clothing and toiletries. From The Heart Clothing, offers clothing, shoes, under garments, sunglasses, reader glasses and other accessories.

Other miscellaneous supplies such as pet supplies, baby food and feminine products are on a first-come-first-served basis because of limited donations.

The food bank offers those in need a monthly food supply subscription where the individuals are able to choose from a variety of foods. Multiple food items include breads, canned goods, boxed items, frozen/refrigerated foods.

“Anything that [the donator] can think of for the homeless that don’t have an oven or a refrigerator, something instant that they can just eat,” Mattison said.

Currently, the Food Bank is creating holiday boxes for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Items needed to create the boxes include stuffing, pumpkin, butter, turkeys, biscuits, instant potatoes, cranberry sauce. All donated items must be unused and sealed.
