Havasu Goes Back To The Wild West

The Lake Havasu City Friends of the Fair will host Little Delbert Days and turn Havasu into the Wild West for the weekend.

Through the weekend of Jan. 26-27, the Grand Canyon Rodeo Association hosts a pro rodeo combination, with numerous wild activities for Havasuvians to enjoy.

This year marks the 10th anniversary the rodeo has been in Lake Havasu City at the Lake Havasu Rodeo Grounds in SARA Park, starting at 10 a.m. with mutton bustin’.

Sandi Nagel, a board member of the Friends of the Fair which maintains the rodeo grounds and hosts the main events, gave RiverScene Magazine all of the details.

Xtreme Riders

This year’s Havasu rodeo will include a the famous Xtreme Broncs Riders, who hold their finals at the Havasu Rodeo Grounds. The Bronc riders compete all over the country, attempting to saddle and mount bucking wild horses with no lassos. The Xtreme Bronc Riders hold two performances each day of the rodeo; one in the morning and one in the middle of the rodeo.

Taz Concrete of Havasu helped to bring the riders to Havasu by sponsoring the event. The Xtreme Broncs are only one of the exciting events at the rodeo.

Main Events

Bullriding, bareback riding, and steer wrestling will be featured in the Havasu rodeo. Team roping, in which two ropers wrangle a steer, will challenge cowboys and cowgirls. Calf riding and mutton bustin’ will challenge young cowboys by having them attempt to ride a calf and sheep respectively.

There will also be Ladies’ Breakaway Roping, in which a cowgirl lassos a calf down and attempts to beat a set time; Ladies’ Barrel Racing, in which cowgirls test their horse racing skills against the clock. Plenty of events will be set up for the kids in the Little Delbert Days rodeo.

Fun for the Whole Family

Children can enjoy the kidszone, which will be inside, with face painting and arts and crafts, courtesy of Home Depot. There will also be two mechanical bulls for riding for kids and teens, bounce houses, a rock climbing wall, a zipline and a trampoline. Local Havasu bakery Small Cakes will be host a cake walk.

The Little Delbert Days Rodeo will excite families and rodeo enthusiasts alike. Children and teens under the age of 15 are free. Adults and teens 16 and older pay $15 admission. Parking is free, and there will be food from local vendors at the event.

The rodeo will take place in Lake Havasu City Jan. 26 and 27, starting at 10 a.m., with the mutton bustin’ and ending at 4 p.m.
