Across the London Bridge, those looking for something safe to do will find what locals refer to as the Island Trail.

The paved and maintained trail is a 3.6-mile trek around the island. At an average walking pace, it would take a hiker approximately 1.5 hours to complete the trek but the trial was built for all types of activities, from walking to running to biking.

Lake Havasu City is relatively young compared to other Arizona cities, but it does have a history. Any resident of Havasu would tell you that it is a challenge to find a flat piece of land to walk or exercise on in the entire city. This very thought was the drive behind the construction of the Island Trail in the 1980s. It is no secret that it is one the few places in Havasu that offer a flat terrain of any distance to exercise.

The trial offers the best of  beautiful Lake Havasu and the surrounding community. Much of the trail is a picturesque close up of the lake and its postcard views, including the rugged mountains in the distance. All is on display as pedestrians travel counter-clockwise while bicyclists ride in a clockwise direction.

The trial embraces a wide variety of activities including an abundance of walkers. With that said, a brief list of hiking safety tips are worth the read. This is particularly important given the extremes of our summer climate as well as the hazards of desert wildlife. Have fun, stay healthy, and be safe.
