Memorial Day is the day America honors men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. It was originally known as Decoration Day, and was created in the years following the Civil War.
Decoration Day was so named because relatives decorated with flowers the graves of loved ones killed during war. In keeping with this tradition, the graves of all veterans buried at Havasu Memorial Gardens have been decorated with flowers, which are placed every year by London Bridge Resort employees.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9401 of Lake Havasu will host the annual Memorial Day ceremony Monday at Havasu Memorial Gardens. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m., with the posting of Colors.
