Located at 1990 McCulloch Blvd. N., the Job Connection is an arm of Goodwill Industries of Northern Arizona. The job center has information, training, and tools a job seeker might need to start the process of finding employment, equipped with computers, printers, desks, applications, plenty of seating, and a patient, friendly staff. Those using the center receive guidance and the tools needed for the job search.

Job coach Kimberly Duncan said, “Our mission is putting people to work.” They assist people looking for employment with applying online and creating résumés.

Job Connection also provides “vouchers so they can go in the proper clothes on interviews or when they get the job, if they have a certain attire they’re supposed to wear,” ensuring they have the right clothes they need to go to work, according to Duncan.

“We have different programs for individuals with barriers to employment that they can be a part of to learn soft and hard work skills to obtain and maintain employment,” Duncan said.

The Good Samaritan voucher is another tool Goodwill uses to help those in need in the community.

“We also help out with individuals who need everyday necessities, so we do a Good Samaritan voucher so that entails some household goods, like towels, blankets, plates and two sets of clothes for each person,” Duncan said.

The goal of the Job Connection, Duncan said, is making a difference in the lives of many.

Their ongoing mission has produced several successes, including one of their very own, Lilliana Sandoval.

Sandoval came to the Job Connection looking for employment, and it so happened a position at Goodwill itself was open, through AmeriCorps/Northern Arizona University.

“I love everything I do at this job. Helping humanity and encourage them when they are looking for a job is stressful. At Goodwill we all work together as a team and work very hard in our community to help people in every situation we can. A smile can sure make a big difference in people’s lives,” Sandoval said.

She said she is grateful to Duncan and all she taught her and said she is a “great teacher.”
