Havasu Knights Take Lee Williams Thursday Night

The Lake Havasu High School Knights varsity football team was victorious over Kingman’s Lee Williams in a rare Thursday night game at Lee Barnes stadium in Lake Havasu.

The Knights scored 28 points to Lee Williams’ 21 points when all was said and done.

Lee Williams scored first on an interception by Cooper Crunk which he returned for a 39-yard touchdown.

But the Knights answered to tie the game in the first quarter on a pass from Halo Jump to Carter Devett for a 56-yard touchdown.

But the Volunteers charged right back with a 39-yard run for a touchdown by Lucas Leist, making it a 14 to 7 game.

More action in the first quarter saw Havasu’s Luke Johnson scoring on a 1-yard run, tying it up at 14 apiece.

In the second quarter, the Volunteers scored on another interception by Cooper Crunk for a 50-yard touchdown.

At the half, Lee Williams led the Knights 21-14.

There was no scoring in the third quarter, but the fourth quarter made the difference.

Havasu’s Luke Johnson made a 1-yard touchdown, tying the game at 21 all.

But Johson wasn’t finished. He scored a second touchdown in the fourth quarter with 37 seconds left in the game, lifting the Knights above the Volunteers for the win.

This is the first time since 2015 that the home team has won. In 2015, Havasu won 49-0.

Visiting teams have won the last six times. Last year Havasu went to Lee Williams and won 34-27.

The teams did not play each other in 2016, 2017 and 2020.

Havasu improved their record to 2-1 on the season. Lee Williams lost their first game after starting the season 2-0.

The Knights are on the road for the next four weeks. Next week, they go to Phoenix to play Alhambra.

Their next home game is Oct. 17, against Youngker, which will also be homecoming.

Coach Karl Thompson now has 97 wins as head coach of the Lake Havasu High School Knights.
