More than 40 people participated in Saturday’s Sandie’s Pass. Sandie’s Pass is a run around the Lake Havasu City island to honor Alger, who was killed by a drunken driver while riding her bicycle on July 29, 2013, and to raise funds for SAM.

As an organization, SAM is determined to achieve sustainable funding to provide free and safe passage home to those driving under the influence. Its goal is to significantly reduce the number of alcohol/illicit substance-related injuries and fatalities in our community.

The mission, according to the SAM website, is to provide education and awareness surrounding the use of substances that can impair driving capabilities and to raise funds tor to offer no questions asked taxi rides home for those that are intoxicated.

Dan Kuch and Erika Washington were the top two finishers in the race Saturday.
