A word could be used to describe Colorado River Communications: Dedication.
From its small office in Lake Havasu City, the Toy family owns and operates a customer-focused and quality-driven business.
A provider of a wide array of services for businesses and homes, Colorado River Communications has been in Lake Havasu City for almost 20 years. The Havasu business owners sat down with Riverscene to discuss their history and start in Lake Havasu City.
A Lake Havasu City Legacy
“We’ve been here since 2000,” John Toy said as he recalled Colorado River Communications’ history.
Colorado River Communications was initially started as a way to keep the now–retired family founder Keith Toy busy after he retired from IBM and moved to Lake Havasu City where his family has had a long history. John Toy, Keith Toy’s youngest brother, fondly remembers being on the lake as an infant.
“Apparently, I went water skiing with the Wrigley Twins when I was 1,” John Toy told us.
Ever the entrepreneur, Keith Toy created Colorado River Communications to service the Lake Havasu area’s phone and cabling needs.
The business soon grew enough to take on substantial clients. The very first building they cabled was the former McCulloch real estate office.
From there, Colorado River Communications has only continued to grow its clientele but still keep it in the family. John Toy remembers starting in the industry when he was in high school, running cable through various hotels in Las Vegas.
Dedication to Doing it Right
“We try doing it right the first time, and we fix it if we didn’t,” John Toy said, and his many coworkers agree. The pursuit of excellence in the installation and maintenance of their services is something that is shared across the company, and evident from some of their higher-end clients. A few of them include the Havasu Regional Medical Center for phones and access control; State Bank of Arizona phone system; and the fire alarms for Telesis Preparatory Academy.
Colorado River Communications also has worked with more extraordinary clientele, including the Yucca Proving Grounds, where they installed the fire alarm systems for Harley Davidson testing area.
The team also installed the fiber, phone, and data cabling for the Calexico Prison, and they worked with the Lake Havasu City High School for cabling.
CRC’s latest client was the new Western Arizona Humane Society Shelter, in which they installed its full range of services.
The Diversified Business
Colorado River Communications can deal with any low–voltage installation. Services include wireless internet service, phone systems and telephone service for business, security systems and monitoring, security cameras, fire alarms and monitoring, access control and high–end home automation.
Over the years, CRC evolved to include the wide array of services previously mentioned. The team also services all of its products themselves from the office in Lake Havasu City. The CRC team is specialized in all aspects of their services.
A One Stop Shop
Colorado River Communications is currently packaging new bundles for small businesses. The company has created bundles including wireless internet service, telephone service and alarm monitoring.
CRC works with Wirefree Communications to ensure that their customers have the best wireless internet available.
For hotels and motels, CRC can also include Direct TV service with their bundled installation. The bundled packages come with guaranteed service directly from the company.
The Toy family plans to continue operating CRC under the management of Bryan Toy, Keith’s son, and John Toy for many years to come, and hope to expand their business while still keeping it in the family.
