Many women and their families along with Lake Havasu Area Chamber of Commerce members gathered at the Lakeview Women’s Center to celebrate a special ribbon cutting and grand opening Nov. 18.

Moms, dads and their babies along with members of the community got a glimpse of the facility that now gives women and families another option for medical services.

“We wanted to give the women of Lake Havasu City more medical care options,” said  Heather Anderson, Doctor of Nursing and Certified Midwife. “This is a huge thing, we were met with many challenges for almost three years trying to get this facility finally opened, ” Anderson said. “It is so special for us.”

Anderson said that a lot of medical facilities are often intimidating and very sterile and she felt there needed to be a medical office that combined holistic with traditional approaches. Once one walks inside, they find a facility that offers a warm and inviting place with décor in light and warm tones that welcome all patients.

“I think it’s amazing, I love that it’s women-run and owned. The facility is such a beautiful and comfortable place nothing like a hospital room,” said Meghan Collom, Lake Havasu City resident and mom.

The Lakeview Center providers include Dr. Heather Anderson and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner Cathy Hoover who brings 30 years of experience in the field.

Anderson  specializes in women’s health which includes  low-risk pregnancy care and general gynecology.
Her approach is preventative medicine. She not only serves Lake Havasu City, but continues to work periodically for a large practice and hospital in Rochester, Mich., to bring the most up-to-date, care  in obstetrics and gynecology to the center.

Hoover is no stranger to Lake Havasu City.  She moved to Lake Havasu City in 1986 and was a Labor and Delivery nurse at Havasu Regional Medical Center before attending Nurse Practitioner training in California, before joining the Lakeview Women’s Center team.

“I felt that I could take care of patients a lot better joining this practice,” says Cathy Hoover, Nurse Practitioner at Lakeview Women’s Center. “I am happy to have joined Dr. Anderson’s practice. We have a lot of the same ideas. We collaborate very well together.”

The Lakeview Women’s Center includes on-site birthing suites, birth and postpartum doulas, lactation consultants, childbirth education classes and motherhood support groups.

Dr. Don Nelson, who has been delivering babies – more than 13,000 – in Lake Havasu City for 50 years, was at the Grand Opening and praised Anderson for the service.

“What Heather has done is unbelievably positive. It is a beautiful building and the community needs it,” Nelson said.

“The services that she renders are so much needed in this community,” he said.

The center is not only the only birthing center in Mohave County, but also offers other healthcare services for all women. Those services include; breast and cervical cancer testing, annual exams, STD testing, treatment for endometriosis, menopause and also provides birth control and many more services relating to women’s health.
