Runners from Lake Havasu City participated in the Great American Relay last weekend to raise money for the American Association of Cancer Research.

The nearest leg of the race featured runners participating either in person or virtually from the east to west coasts through 15 states. The 379-leg race took place from Sept. 15 to Oct. 21. More locally, runners participated in Parker.

According to a message from Catie Sondrol, the runners in Leg 349 went to 22 miles, but the team had to stop 1.5 miles short of the finish because of darkness. The team included Andrea Johnson-Helart, Damian Ball, Vicki Forbell, Catie Sondrol,  Alicia Bone, Crystal Villarete and Alicia Mari. Justin Madsen and Theresa Duncan completed about 20 miles in the Salt River Canyon area. Crystal Callagy ran 9.5 miles into Bouse and handed off the baton to the Havasu team.

The team vowed to return to the relay next year.
