Larry Olsen has been preparing incoming freshman students for algebra for 12 years at Lake Havasu High School for the S.M.A.R.T. program, Summer Math Algebra Readiness Transition.
This year, 61 students have taken part in the program that takes place for 15 days, four hours a day.
Three teachers at LHHS are teaching the students nine key skill areas: Apply fundamental math skills; demonstrate proficiency in using order of operations; demonstrate applications and properties of integers; evaluate and simplify algebraic expressions; convert words to symbols; solve linear equations in one variable; demonstrate math of polynomials; apply note taking and notebook organization.
Upon completion of the program, the students will earn .5 elective credit.
