April Fools Day was no joke for Soroptimist International of Lake Havasu City International.
Swing for Soroptimists Golf Tournament April 1 at Havasu Golf Club was a serious event meant to raise funds to support women and girls in the Lake Havasu City area.
SILHC President Ann Holmgreen said in an email there were 84 participants, including the oldest Soroptimist in Lake Havasu City as well as some club novices.
“We also had some very low handicapped golfers participate, as well as your average golfers like myself. There was a wide range of skill level present, but all seemed to have fun supporting our cause,” Holmgreen said.
She said members of the Lake Havasu High School Golf Team participated in a special fund-raising.
“A few of the girls drove the golf balls for the teams for a $20 donation. I was amazed at how far they drove the balls. Well worth my $20 donation, even though my team came in last place. You can only ask so much from one drive,” she said.
Along with other fundraising activities on the golf course, a silent auction included a donated painting by Maureen Osbourne.
Key sponsors of the event were Anderson Power Sports, Independent Electric Supply and Integra Golf.
