Last weekend two Lake Havasu City women came together to make the promise of hair real for children fighting cancer or with alopecia hair loss.

Blondie (Bondena) Miley visited Monarch Hair Salon, where Johna Whitefox relieved her of some of her long tresses. Miley donated her hair to the national nonprofit organization Children With Hair Loss.

“I’m here with my amazing stylists Johna cutting of my hair that I’ve been growing since 2018,” Miley said.

Miley said she didn’t think she’d be able to donate her hair because it had been colored in the past.

“Johna said that I could donate event though it had been colored.”

Whitefox said Children With Hair Loss was founded by a fellow hairdresser.

“She had a niece who lost her hair to cancer treatment, and she went to Locks of Love to get her niece a wig. They were not eligible for the wig because it was too expensive, so she decided to start her own organization for children with hair loss,” Whitefox said.

“She got involved and now all these children can go to this organization and get free wigs – guys or girls – it’s all free to kids going through cancer treatment or with alopecia,” Whitefox said.

Miley, a nurse practitioner, said she is known for short hair, and people have wondered why she was growing her hair long.

“I take care of all ages. I have patients who have cancer and alopecia, and they wear wigs. It’s nice there’s an organization that can help kids. When Johna told me about this place, I said, ‘I’m gonna do that.’”
