A large piece of Lake Havasu City history found itself at the business end of a wrecking crane Tuesday morning.

What was the Golden Unicorn and theater and other buildings that once made up the English Village has been reduced to a pile of rubble to make way for a new hotel.

When Virtual Realty Enterprise purchased the property in 2011, they cleaned it up, repaired the fountain, and allowed the Visitors Center to move from its old cramped quarters on site into the much larger original theater.

They announced recently that a $20 million hotel project will be built on the property.

Tuesday’s demolition was the beginning of that project.

The Lake Havasu City Convention and Visitors Bureau Visitors Center and fountain area will remain in tact.

A pile of rubble sits where the old Candle Factory used to be near the English Village after being torn down Tuesday morning.
