On a sunny Sunday afternoon, over 1,400 motorcycles from hundreds of miles around, converged on the Blue Bar II along the “Parker Strip” south of Lake Havasu City for one of the largest Christmas Toy Runs out west. This made the 31st year that this annual event, which started out with a handful of bikes & has grown every year, has made the 25 mile trek from Parker, AZ north to Lake Havasu City, along AZ Hwy 95 .
The bike procession is open to all & covered approximately 2 miles this year & was escorted by the La Paz County Sheriffs Department initially & later handed off to the Lake Havasu City PD, which escorts the long line of bikes the entire length of McCulloch Blvd to the drop off point downtown.
The purpose is to deliver unwrapped Christmas presents to the needy children & families in the Lake Havasu City area & this is accomplished through the coordination of the non-profit “Inner Agency” in Havasu. The City closes a stretch of downtown McCulloch Blvd for the festivities, which besides the trailers that house all the presents has street vendors, beer garden with band & the local merchants make sure they open their doors for this special event…oh, can not forget the visit from Santa…many “Thanks” goes out to River Rider’s M/C Club for all the hard work & let’s shoot for 1,500 bikes next year…
