Community members, police, fire and city council along with local businesses are set to compete against each other at the 7th Annual Great Pineapple Race Thursday September 24.

The event hosted by the Lake Havasu Hospitality Association is a canoe race where teams are in costume depending on the years theme and will also compete for best costume recognition: The theme this year is tribal wear.

To be a part of the fun, the community may watch the race beginning at the south mouth of the Bridgewater Channel to mid-channel;and at the finish line which will be at the Dog Park.

Competitors go through a registration process and safety training before hitting the water on canoes. teams who are active members of the Lake Havasu Hospitality Association must also be in good standing with the organization.

“We have 17 teams this year that are participating and every year we get more people that are very enthusiastic to participate,” said Mary Barriault organizer of the event.

The Lake Havasu Hospitality Association works to educate and advocate for the hospitality trade in Lake Havasu City.

Race kick off time is at 5pm followed by the race at 5:15pm and ends at 7pm.
