Lake Havasu is made great by the efforts of many charitable organizations, including the relatively new group Havasis.
Havasis has been supporting the community ever since its creation in 2021. As guided by their Mission of Giving, they aid nonprofit institutions with fundraisers and so much more.
Havasis is “a sisterhood of women committed to providing a friendly, positive social environment within our community while paying it forward through our Mission of Giving and random acts of kindness focusing on our local veterans and needy children,” according to director and founder Connie Alexander.
“Havasis is a sisterhood with purpose,” member Vilma Urbina said. “Being a part of this group fills my heart — we lift each other up while giving back to veterans, children and families in our community. It’s having fun with your girlfriends while making a real difference.”

Amber Kennedy, another Havasis member said, “Volunteering with this group has been incredibly rewarding and the impact we make in our community continually inspires me. The generous, compassionate women I serve alongside make this organization truly special. Their kindness and dedication motivate me to give more and grow as a person.”
Most recently, Havasis found success in its Havasu Heroes Golf Tournament on Nov. 8.
The tournament honored the memory of SSgt William “Billy” Harrell who was killed in Iraq in an act of heroism saving another Marine. His wife is Kelli Harrell, General Manager of Lake Havasu Golf Course, along with Havasis, she decided upon ECHO Group/Band of Brothers Arizona as the beneficiary to the event proceeds, which totaled $26,218 that was presented on Nov. 15.

“Our Breakfast with Santa is scheduled Nov. 30, at Montana Steakhouse. During this time we have a Christmas Toy Drive and a Veteran’s Charity Tree,” Alexander said of upcoming events. “We have a free Christmas movie day and a ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ Dance class.”
Also in the works is the Heroes in Heels Recognition Dinner on Feb. 11, 2026. This special event honors women in the community who don’t often get the spotlight but who work to make Lake Havasu a better place. There will be 200 people in attendance at Shugrue’s Bridgeview Room from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
“Havasis is a unique organization because we not only honor women that put so much of their time and energy into our incredible town but we have an amazing group of volunteers that put on so many events to help the people in our town,” said Georgeann Hoover, another Havasis member. “Being a sponsor or volunteer for events like The Heroes Golf Tournament and the Heroes Concert gives us the ability to help our Hometown Heroes, our veterans.”

Hoover went on to say, “This is truly a remarkable group of women and our hunks (male members) that are always there for each other and will always step up when there is a need, not to mention the close friendships that we all benefit from. Love all my sisters.”
