Marrisa Hearn, third-grade teacher at Smoketree Elementary, demonstrates what it means to be a caring and committed teacher.
Hearn has been at Smoktree since 2019, committed to being a strong mentor for her students. She is the Kindness Club advisor, along with the third-grade team lead.
Putting routines and procedures in place, Hearn ensures students have a predictable and safe space to learn.
When asked about Hearn, Smoktree Principal Nina Mersing said, “She serves as a strong mentor to up and coming educators while creating a learning environment where students are challenged, supported, and inspired to grow.”
Hearn holds high expectations for her students, which builds their confidence and achievements.

Hearn creates a positive educational environment.
“In Cougar Country, she exemplifies the heart of excellence — developing strong students, supporting strong teachers, and helping our school community thrive,” Mersing continues.
Not only is Hearn a Smoktree alumni, her mother also works at Smoketree.
Hearn is organized and prepared for the learning of each child, creating an environment where students learn skills that they will carry past their year with her.
